The first thought many people have when they set out to come up with weight loss meal plans is that they will skip breakfast. Despite being taught in grade school "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day", many people still don't believe they need it.

After sleeping all night, your body is in a fasting mode, and many people do not feel hungry in the first few hours after waking up; however, your metabolism is wound downm and you are not burning fat at the rate you want to be if fat loss is your goal.

Eating a healthy breakfast stimulates your metabolism and gets the fat burning process started. Many people are so used to feeling poorly in the morning that they don't even realize how much eating breakfast can help.

It should be noted that a healthy breakfast includes protein, and does not include processed sugary foods. Unfortunately, much of what is marketed as breakfast food is simply junk food. Pastries, fat-laden white-flour biscuits and the ever-present box of cereal are typical "breakfast foods" that should be avoided at any time of day.

Eggs are a good breakfast protein. Often, people say they can't handle something that heavy in the morning, but aren't realizing that it isn't the eggs, but the biscuits, gravy, nitrate-loaded bacon, etc. that leaves them feeling blah afterwards. Look for nitrate- and nitrite-free products if you do choose to eat breakfast meats.

For someone who really doesn't want to eat, fruit and nuts may be a good compromise to get the day started. Then, follow up with a heartier snack later in the morning. The important thing is to incorporate breakfast into your weight loss meal plans. And then of course stick to your plans!
